Site and <strong>Switch</strong> Machine Inspection ProcedureStepActionWARNINGWHEN USING THE HAND CRANK ON THIS SWITCH MACHINE, KEEPA FIRM HOLD ONTO THE HAND CRANK. IF THERE IS SPRING IN THESWITCH POINTS WHEN THE MACHINE BECOMES UNLOCKED, THEHAND CRANK WILL ACCELERATE RAPIDLY IN THE DIRECTION IT ISBEING TURNED. IF NOT CAUTIOUS, INJURY BY THE CRANK’SSUDDEN MOVEMENT COULD RESULT.1 Inspect the switch machine case and guards for physical damage ordistortion. Guards should be clear to allow moving parts to move freely.2 Inspect around complete switch layout, including between points (1) andstock rail (2) for foreign material, ballast or excessive dirt, which might blockthe motion of the rods or points. During winter conditions, check for snowand ice under the cut-away area of a switch point that meshes with the stockrail.
