Theory of Operation2.4. HAND THROW OPERATION (5F AND 5H SWITCH MACHINES)The Hand Throw Selector Lever must be in the POWER position for energy to besupplied to the motor as shown in Figure 2–3. This enables power operation of theswitch machine.WARNINGNEVER MOVE THE HAND THROW LEVER WITHOUT MOVING THEHAND THROW SELECTOR LEVER TO THE HAND POSITION.LEAVING THE SWITCH MACHINE POWER OPERATION MODE WHILEMANUALLY ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE HAND THROW LEVERCOULD RESULT IN INJURY.WARNINGSTORED MECHANICAL ENERGY, CAUSED BY IMPROPERADJUSTMENT, SHIFTS IN RAILS OR OTHER SWITCH COMPONENTS,OR OBSTRUCTIONS, CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO THE HAND-THROWLEVER DURING HAND OPERATION CAUSING IT TO MOVE RAPIDLYAND FORCEFULLY. DIFFICULTY IN HAND OPERATING THE SWITCHCOULD INDICATE A POTENTIAL HAZARD. IF ANY OF THESECONDITIONS ARE OBSERVED, CHECK THAT THE SWITCH ISADJUSTED PROPERLY.To hand operate the 5H Switch Machine rotate the Hand Throw Selector Lever to theHAND position to remove energy to the motor.
