Installation3.5.2. Friction Clutch Operational CheckThe clutch should be tested when placing the machine in service and at scheduledintervals thereafter. The clutch is factory-adjusted to slip at a motor current of about 12to 14 amperes for the 110 volt motor and 17 to 20 amperes for the 24-volt motor.Slipping current may be varied to meet the property’s specifications. To test the clutchsetting, follow the procedure in Table 3–10.Table 3–10. Friction Clutch Operational Check ProcedureStepAction1 Place a ¼” obstruction, such as an obstruction gauge, between the switchpoint and rail.OBSTRUCTION GAUGE2 Shunt out operating winding of overload relay in controller for Models 5Gand 5H.Shunt out the overload relay in the instrument house for Models 5G and 5H.3 Connect an ammeter in series with motor energy.4 Operate switch point against obstruction.5 Read motor current as clutch slips. If current value too high or too low, seeadjustment procedure in Section 4, Preventive Maintenance.6 Disconnect the ammeter, remove shunt on overload relay, and remove theobstruction from switch point.P1293, Rev.
