Installation3.3.2. Mounting to TiesAll ties that support the switch machine and switch points must be well tamped for theirentire length to minimize vibration from passing trains. The two extended ties whichdirectly support the switch machine must be reasonably straight and, where required,properly framed. It is necessary to securely fasten the machine to the ties to ensure littlechance of movement with respect to the rails. Also, it is important to check the switchlayout plans to verify the installation is correctly made.3.3.3. Wiring of MachineIn Models 5E and 5F Switch Machines operating circuits are completely wired at thefactory. To wire the point-detector, connect the external wires to the machine through awire entrance fitting to the terminal posts in the machine in accordance with the detailwiring plan that applies to the location.In Models 5G and 5H Switch Machines, the biased-neutral controller, motor, and pointdetectorare completely wired at the factory. In the field, the external wires for switchcontrol, motor energy, heaters (if included), and repeater relay circuits are brought intothe machine through a suitable wire entrance fitting and connected to the terminal boardposts. To connect these external wires, follow the detail wiring plan for the location.Typical switch machine wiring diagrams and repeater relay circuits are included in theappendix, and are grouped by model. Repeater relay circuits show metal connectorsbetween some adjacent posts on the terminal board. Connectors are supplied with eachnew machine and must be arranged as required in the field.P1293, Rev.
