LOCK AND POINT-DETECTOR RODS ADJUSTMENTAfter the initial switch machine installation is complete, several methods of makingadjustments to the lock rod and point-detector rod can be followed. The particularmethod to be followed depends on the type of lock rod used with a given machine,condition of switch layout and individual preference. Lock rods are referred to here asnarrow or wide-notched. A narrow-notched rod has 2-1/8 inch wide slots; a widenotchedlock rod has 2-5/16 inch slots.Table 3–4. Lock Rod and Point Detector Rod Adjustment MethodsMethodAction1 Point-Detector Rod Adjustment without Releasing Lock Rod. This method isonly for narrow-notched lock rods. The switch layout must be in goodcondition, with switch solidly secured near stock rail, and stock rail wellbraced and switch points fitted properly.2 Point-Detector Rod and Lock Rod Adjustment without Releasing Lock Rod.This method applies to switch layout where only a wide-notched lock rod isused, and it checks both switch and layout.3 Point-Detector Adjustment with Lock Rod Released. This method can beused with any switch layout and with either narrow or wide-notched lockrods. It checks both switch and layout.4 Narrow-Notched Lock Rod Adjustment.
