Scheduled Maintenance4.11. ANNUAL MAINTENANCE4.11.1. Magnetic Detent InspectionTable 4–26. Magnetic Detent Inspection ProcedureStepAction1 Disconnect the switch machine power by removing the 110 VDC fuses andheater fuse. Locate the fuses by using the Book of Plans.2 Insert the hand crank (1) and manually crank the machine to the far switchpoint and near switch point positions. Listen for any unusual noises comingfrom the motor holding device area. If the magnets are loose, there will be aclapping sound.3 Remove magnetic detent cover and check for water trapped in holdingdevice housing. Drain and wipe dry.4 Confirm armature and attached magnets rotate freely.5 Verify armature shaft has no end play.6 Apply Permagum or similar sealant to cover the surface that mates withholding device. Magnetic Detent Inspection Procedure (Cont.)StepAction7 Replace magnetic detent cover.8 Check that all screws and nuts are tight.9 Check the locked torque on the armature by measuring the amount of pullneeded to move the hand crank to the next detent position. The lockedtorque measured from the end of the hand crank must be in excess of 10pounds. If the detent torque is less than 10 pounds, refer to Table 6–47Mechanical Test Procedure Steps 33 and 34.Check operation of magnetic holding device by hand-cranking switchmachine. It should require at least 3 foot pounds for a high-speed machine(110V) or 6.25 foot pounds for a low-speed machine (24V) to initiate handcranking.(Six or 12-1/2 pounds, respectively, of force at hand-crankhandle.)10 Remove the hand crank from the clutch shaft and reset the cutout contactby moving the blocking plate to the normal position.Re-install all covers and padlocks.Reset the crank mechanism cutout switch by moving the blocking plate tothe normal position.Re-install the fuses removed in Step 1 and restore the machine to service.P1293, Rev.
