Scheduled MaintenanceTable 4–8. Obstruction and Overload Relay Test Procedure (Cont.)StepAction4 Place a second obstruction (2) gauge between the switch point and thestock rail for normal position.5 Change switch position to alternate correlation (Normal to Reverse), notingthe length of time from when the machine encounters the obstruction anduntil the overload relay picks up. It should pick up within 1 to 10 seconds.(Some variation in time for pickup may be expected between tests in twodirections.)6 It is important to let the resistance wire cool between tests or a wrongsetting will result.7 To increase the pickup time of the overload relay, turn slotted-head nutshown in step 3 clockwise; to decrease the pickup time turn nutcounterclockwise.8 If an adjustment was made in step 7, repeat steps 4 through 7 to verifyoriginal position again.9 Remove the two obstruction gauges.10 Call the switch machine to reverse and verify that the overload relay doesnot pick up and that the Local Control Panel indicates reverse position within5 seconds.11 Call the switch machine to normal, and verify that the overload relay doesnot pick up and that the Local Control Panel indicates reverse position within5 seconds.12 Perform the Overload Relay Adjustment Procedure.P1293, Rev.
