Installation3. SECTION - INSTALLATION3.1. GENERALModel 5E-5H Switch Machines should be installed in accordance with the property’sapproved switch layout. A newly installed machine should be adjusted and lubricatedaccording to the criteria in this manual.Satisfactory operation of the switch machine depends on it being installed properly,adjustments made correctly, all identified parts lubricated according to the lubricationchart, and maintenance performed at regular intervals. Maintain good drainage arounda switch machine so it will not be flooded.NOTEAfter the installation is completed or after making any adjustments to themachine or switch layout, hand crank the machine first before applying DCpower to check for responses to the adjustments.3.2. PROPERTY’S REQUIREMENTSAlthough this publication gives set-up information on a typical machine installation, themaintainer should always be sure the switch layout is done in accordance with therequirements of the rail property.3.3. INSTALLATIONThe installation process consists of three elements: physical mounting of the equipmentby the tracks, making necessary adjustments and electrical connections, and testing forproper mechanical movement. Details of this process are described next.When following the procedures in this manual, the following warnings must be heeded:WARNINGWHEN USING THE HAND CRANK ON THIS SWITCH MACHINE, KEEPA FIRM HOLD ONTO THE HAND CRANK. IF THERE IS SPRING IN THESWITCH POINTS WHEN THE MACHINE BECOMES UNLOCKED, THEHAND CRANK WILL ACCELERATE RAPIDLY IN THE DIRECTION IT ISBEING TURNED.
