Scheduled Maintenance4.9.4. Box-Style Bearing And Wear Plate InspectionThe box-style bearings and wear plates will eventually wear out, and should be replacedbefore wearing through. To maintain proper operation and safety, lock rod wear platesmust be replaced before the distance between the clip on the lock rod and the blockingextension on the yoke of the point detector reaches 3/16 inch. Other wear plates mustbe replaced before wearing through. Failure to replace wear plates will result in framedamage, and wear of internal components may occur.Perform the following procedure in the sequence given.Table 4–11. Box-Style Bearing And Wear Plate Inspection ProcedureStepAction1 Disconnect the switch machine power by removing the 110 VDC fuses andheater fuse. Locate the fuses by using the Book of Plans.2 Remove the padlock from the switch machine hasp that holds down both thegear and contact compartment covers.3 Release the tension on the hasp strap and remove the strap up and off fromthe covers.4 Verify that the cover is free of the motor side and point detector sideeyebolts before lifting the cover off from the machine.5 Remove the gear and contact compartment covers by lifting the coversstraight up and off.6 Place the end of the hand crank against the inside lip of the blocking platethen move the plate to the detent position, centering the hole in the platewith the clutch crank hole. This action separates the contact plunger fromthe cutout switch contact block.7 Insert the hand crank through the blocking plate hole into the clutch.Observe that the motor cutout contacts are open.
