General Description1.3.1. Model 5E Switch MachineThe Model 5E Switch Machine is designed for power operation only. A hand crank isprovided for making and checking adjustments and for emergency use. The hand crankmechanism has an automatic motor cutout device to prevent power operation with thecrank in use.Control and overload relays are housed externally. The two-wire control circuit uses twobiased-neutral control relays and a neutral overload relay. Three wires for motor controlare required between the relay housing and the switch machine. The number ofindication wires required depends on the type of circuit used.1.3.2. Model 5F Switch MachineThe Model 5F Switch Machine is the same as the Model 5E machine except that itcontains a dual-control mechanism. The Model 5F machine, therefore, is designed forboth power and hand-throw operation. A hand crank is provided for making andchecking adjustments. The hand crank mechanism has an automatic motor cutoutdevice to prevent power operation with the crank in use.The gear train is designed in the Model 5F machine to permit removal and replacementof the friction clutch and intermediate gears without disassembling the dual-controlmechanism.1.3.3. Model 5G Switch MachineThe Model 5G Switch Machine is designed for power operation only. A hand crank isprovided for making and checking adjustments and for emergency use. The hand crankmechanism has an automatic motor cutout device to prevent power operation with thecrank in use.This switch machine contains a biased-neutral controller. Control energy (10 to 12 or 24to 32 volts DC) is applied to the controller either through relays located near the switchmachine, or directly through the switch control lever. The controller also providesoverload protection and dynamic snubbing of the switch machine motor.1.3.4. Model 5H Switch MachineThe Model 5H Switch Machine is the same as the Model 5G machine except that it hasa dual-control mechanism added. This machine is designed for both power and handthrowoperation. A hand crank is provided for making and checking adjustments. Thehand crank mechanism has an automatic motor cutout device to prevent poweroperation with the crank in use.The Model 5H Switch Machine gear train is designed to permit removal andreplacement of the friction clutch and intermediate gears without disassembling thedual-control mechanism.P1293, Rev.
