Troubleshooting5. SECTION 5 - TROUBLESHOOTING5.1. GENERAL PHILOSOPHYTroubleshooting Model 5E through 5H Switch Machines is usually done in the controllocation before going out to the field for inspection. In order to understandtroubleshooting procedures, knowledge of how to read circuit plans is essential. Relaysin the control location are checked using a volt-ohm-meter (multimeter). Also, introubleshooting techniques, a multimeter is used to check continuity of fuses and theresistance of resistors and continuity of circuits.5.2. POSSIBLE SYMPTOMS AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONSTables 5–1 and 5–2 give examples of symptoms of abnormal operation of the switchmachine circuit and trackside equipment and how to begin to determine the faultycomponent or circuit.A optional Switch Machine and Layout Sensing Kit is available from Alstom (P/N 59649-218-00) that can be used during troubleshooting, installation, or maintenance to detectpoint pressure at each point. For a procedure on use of this kit, see Table 3–15 for theThrow Rod Point Pressure Verification Procedure.Table 5–1. Symptoms Noticed from the Control LocationsSymptom1) Switch flashing out ofcorrespondence, RP or NP relay down(per switch position request).2) Switch flashing out orcorrespondence, RWZ or NWZ relaydown (per switch position request).3) Switch flashing out ofcorrespondence, RW or NW relay down(per switch position request).Corrective Action1) Check for 24V DC power at RP or NP coil.2) Check for bad relay.1) Check that RP or NP relay is up.2) Check for 24V DC power at RWZ or NWCcoil.3) Check for bad relay.1) Check that RWZ or NWZ relay is up.2) Check for 24V DC power at RW or NWcoil.3) Check for bad relay.P1293, Rev.
