Theory of Operation2.5.6. Point Detector RodsThe point detector rod follows the position of the switch points. When released, the pointdetector yoke drops into the grooves cut in the top of the rod, showing the pointposition. Figure 2–23 illustrates the point detector rod in extreme positions and the pointdetector yoke engaged to the rod grooves.If the point detector rod moves far enough from the extreme positions, the point detectoryoke will swing to a center position, such as when a switch is improperly trailed.Locating notches are provided on the rods to allow initial adjustment of the rods to theswitch layout.Figure 2-23. Point Detector Rod Normal and Reverse PositionsThe point detector rod is connected to movable switch points by the point detectorconnecting rod as shown in Figure 2–24. The point detector rod operates the detectoras the switch points move. The point detector contacts remove energy from the motorafter each stroke and provide the associated circuits of the display panel and signalcontrol relays with the switch point position indications.P1293, Rev.
