Corrective Maintenance6. SECTION 6 - CORRECTIVE MAINTENANCE6.1. GENERAL PURPOSEThe purpose of this section is to identify required test equipment, tools, spare parts, tellhow to perform corrective maintenance- make mechanical adjustments and replacemajor assemblies and discrete components in the maintenance shop.The recommended spare parts are located on the switch machine illustrations inSection 7, Parts Catalog. Table 6–1 summarizes the tools and test equipment requiredfor corrective maintenance and Table 6–46 summarizes the special equipment requiredfor testing.This section includes the complete overhaul procedure of the <strong>Alstom</strong> Model 5 <strong>Switch</strong>Machine. Procedures for complete disassembly and assembly are listed in the propersequence. If a part is found to be malfunctioning, the part must be replaced. Forreplacement, the disassembly process is followed down to the individual part. Theassembly process begins at the specific part and proceeds back to a completed switchmachine. Tables 6–2 through 6–5 reference where to find the steps for completedisassembly and assembly of listed parts.Perform all lubrication procedures found in Section 4, and perform complete switchmachine testing from the end of this section, following the replacement of a part.NOTEAlways replace any covers and guards removed during maintenancebefore placing the switch machine back into service. Covers and guardsare used to protect the lateral movement space for the throw bar, lock rodand detector rod by keeping away unwanted trackside debris, ballast orother material.P1293, Rev.
