Scheduled Maintenance4.9.16. Hand-Power Lever TestHand-power levers are components of the Model 5F and 5H Switch Machines only.Check mode-selector lever contact in dual-control machines as follows:Table 4–24. Hand-Power Lever TestStepAction1 Place mode-selector lever in HAND position. Hand-throw switch machineusing hand-throw lever.2 Place mode-selector lever in vertical position.3 Hand-crank switch machine until hand-throw lever starts to rise out of latchstand. At this point, notice clutch sleeve is nearly engaged in clutch gear aswell as main gear.4 Oscillate hand crank back and forth while moving mode-selector levertoward POWER position.5 When hand-throw lever stops rising in latch stand, stop hand-cranking andhold mode-selector lever in that position. At this point, notice clutch sleevejust disengages from clutch gear.6 Measure selector-lever contact opening - it should be at least 1/16-inch. Ifnot, bend contact to produce desired opening.7 Place mode-selector lever in POWER position.8 Check mode-selector lever contact makes at least 3/16-inch contact. If not,bend contact to produce desired contact. Repeat Steps 1 - 7 if it wasnecessary to bend contact.P1293, Rev. Jun/07 4–47 Alstom Signaling Inc.
Scheduled Maintenance4.10. SEMI-ANNUAL MAINTENANCE4.10.1. Commutator InspectionTable 4–25. Commutator Inspection ProcedureStepAction1 Disconnect the switch machine power by removing the 110 VDC fuses andheater fuse. Locate the fuses by using the Book of Plans.2 Inspect commutator area that contacts the brushes.3 If area is not black or dark brown-colored and highly polished, check forproper grade of brush and possible external contaminants.4 If external contamination is causing commutator to roughen and gall, tryremoving motor's ventilation and refinishing the commutator. Replace wrongbrush with proper grade of brush.5 Keep commutator smooth and free of grease or oil.6 Remove any carbon dust around commutator end of armature in undercuts.7 Reconnect energy to motor.P1293, Rev.
