Switch Machine Disassembly and Assembly Procedure (Cont.)StepAction23 For Models 5F and 5H.Remove the six dowels that hold gear frame to base.Remove gear frame with dual control mechanism attached.Remove main gear and operating crank from gear frame. If dual-controlmechanism is to be retimed when the machine is reassembled, simplyremove nut and washers from top end of operating crank and pull crankdown and out.To remove gear and crank without having to retime the dual controlmechanism when reassembling, proceed as follows:a. Remove hand-throw lever extension.b. Stand gear frame unit on its motor end.c. Place selector lever in the HAND position. Verify hand-throw lever is in adownward position.d. If necessary, rotate main gear and crank until clutch sleeve engagesclutch gear.e. Remove nut and washer from top of crankshaft.f. Carefully notice alignment of crank with respect to gear frame. It must bereplaced in the same alignment, according to where it meets the main gear.g. Force crank out. Follow it part way through with a tool that just goesthrough the top bearing. Hold tool in position to prevent clutch gear fromunmeshing with idler gear.h. With crank removed, remove main gear.24 Remove the nuts (23) holding the two wires (24) to the heater (25), makingsure wires are labeled.Remove the wires and heater complete.P1293, Rev.
