Scheduled Maintenance4.9.5. Throw Rod Check And Adjustment ProcedureThe following procedure describes the switch machine throw rod adjustment.Table 4–12. Throw Rod Check and Adjustment ProcedureStepAction1 Disconnect the switch machine power by removing the power fuses andheater fuse. Locate the fuses by using the Book of Plans.2 Place the end of the hand crank against the inside lip of the blocking platethen move the blocking plate to the detent position, centering the hole in theblocking plate to the clutch crank hole.3 Hand crank the switch machine to the end of its six-inch throw bar stroke.Once started, hand cranking continues easily. Place a piece of heavy paper(e.g.: paper currency, front cover of a pamphlet, etc.) between the switchpoint and the stock rail. Make sure that the paper is located above the frontswitch rod. Observe that when the points close, they exert a light pressureon the paper, but the paper can still be pulled out from between the switchpoint and the stock rail. The closed switch point should tuck in tight to thestock rail with no gaps at the tip of the point.4 Continuing the rotation of the hand crank should cause the locking dog in themachine to enter through the wide notch in the lock rod causing the switchpoints to lock in place.NOTEIf the locking dog does not enter through the wide notch in thelock rod, the locking dog bolts need to be adjusted so that theside of the notch on the lock rod is snug against the lockingdog.P1293, Rev.
