Chapter 8Why The PriesthoodReceives Tithes!The previous chapter, ‘Financing God’s Work’showed how The Scriptural Method of Christian“giving” is for Christians to be willing to give allthat they have to one another. It involves muchmore than merely the giving of a tithe or anoffering. Rather, Christian giving is based uponneed. It does not concern ministerial salaries orother “perks.”It has, also, been shown that each local congregation is responsiblefor the control of giving money to the needy. Whether this“gift” goes to an orphan, widow over sixty, elder, or a minister of“the word”, or those in need, it becomes the responsibility of thechurch to provide the basic necessities for life. Most Christiansknow the laborer is worthy of his hire - as Christ has shown,it is only for basic necessities like food, shelter, clothing. Theseare expenses that have been incurred in performing a ministerialservice. The cost of these necessities was not to be borne by theprovider of this service (the minister) but rather by the receiverof it (the congregation). Included in this arrangement is that theminister must, also, labor with his hands or work in other ways, tobe an example to The Christians (I Thessalonians 3:6-9).The minister is not only to be an example of production and physicalservice, but solely for the support of his immediate house-
