388 God’s Workdemons. The demons told Jesus that they knew He was The Sonof God. But they, also, wanted to know why He came before theirdesignated “time of judgment” or “their torment” - “basanos.”These were demons operating from within Satan’s dominion.They knew that they would be thrown into The Lake of Fire andtormented. But they wanted to know why Jesus had come soearly. It’s ironic even the demons knew and understood the timesequence while Christians - then, and now, still do not.As a consequence, it is important in this context to realize that Satanand his demons are spirits (pneuma.) In this state, they cannotdie. But their minds can be changed - just like their hearts can bechanged. It will not be impossible. It’s in God’s plan.Do you think that they are so strong-willed in their minds that thestronger will of God cannot counteract their individual selfishwill? Carefully consider that question. In short, whose “will”is stronger -that of the demons or that of God? If you say God’s“will” is stronger, then you are virtually admitting that God’s“will” can bring Satan’s “will” to heel. So it is certain:At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, ofthings in heaven, and things in earth, and thingsunder the earth” (Philippians 2:10).Will Satan and his demons be brought to this point of willing submission?Will they come to bow their knees (Verse 10) and confesswith their tongues (Verse 11)? It certainly looks that way - if youbelieve these texts are an accurate report of what is going to takeplace on behalf of God’s “will” being stronger than any other “will”in the universe, which includes Satan. It is also important for you torecognize that the word for “torment” here is “basanos” - which
