In Hebrews5:1 Paul said, “For every high priest taken from amongmen is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that hemay offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins...”Notice God’s requirements for The High Priesthood:1 A High Priest must be human.2 This High Priest must be ordained of God. The word“ordain” in Greek is “kathistemi” which means “toset down” or “place in a position.” God makes thisappointment personally. It is accomplished by Hisestablished Law or by an oath.3 The purpose and duty of The High Priest is for thegood of humanity. It makes Christians acceptable toGod.4 Without a sacrifice God will not accept the sinner(Isaiah 59:1-2). When a sinner repents and wantsto be forgiven, he must offer a sacrifice so God canforgive him.5 These sacrifices and gifts must be acceptable by Godbecause God is the one ordaining the individual tobecome His High Priest.
