192 God’s WorkBaptism of Christ by The Holy Spirit.Then Paul asked, “ 3 And he said unto them, unto what then wereye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism. 4 Then saidPaul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,saying unto the people, that they should believe on him whichshould come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” That is asmuch as they understood.“ 5 When they heard this, they were baptized.” This means theywere baptized again, only this time, “…in the name of [by the authorityof] the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his handsupon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake withtongues, and prophesied.”These were Gentiles, so it was revealed that they received TheHoly Spirit by these signs. The mind can be changed only to acertain extent without God’s Holy Spirit. It can’t go any furtheron its own. If you were baptized with The Baptism of John, whichmeant you saw yourself as a sinner, then you would put your fleshto death under the water. These people didn’t know about God’sSpirit or power until they were baptized in Jesus and received thegift of The Holy Spirit.Who Helps You?When these people received God’s Holy Spirit, they no longerneeded any man to help them grow spiritually (I John 2:27). Itmeant that if you were sent to The Isle of Patmos, all by yourselfwith God’s Spirit, you would still be able to grow spirituallyunder those conditions of privation. In other words, repentanceis the process that begins a continual change - that is constantlyunderstanding God and Christ from a biblical point of view. You
