God's Judgment47Carnal And RepentantPeter told the assembled crowds to, “…Repent, and be baptizedevery one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remissionof sin [crimes]” (Acts 2:38). You are guilty of the crime or sin,but because you repented, by Christ’s authority, your sins havebeen forgiven. These are two types of judgment. If you are unrepentant, you remainguilty of your crimes and die. When you repent “in Christ,”you are released from your sins and live. Read what Paul is tellingyou in I Corinthians 15:22. This text is one of the most inspiringon this subject. God conducts two types of judgments withtwo different outcomes. If you remain carnal and unrepentant, you will die. If you repent, you are forgiven and released. Theamazing fact is that all have sinned and yet all will be forgiven inthe ultimate “end-game” sense.Carnal IsraelPreviously, you have learned that the purpose of God’s temple(besides a place of worship) was a courthouse where judgmentwas rendered from God’s throne (the mercy seat). One comesbefore God in the temple to worship God and to receive mercy. However, Christ reveals that as long as one stays unrepentant, he/she are judged strictly by The Letter of The Law (Law’s legalism)and receive no mercy - only death. In Exodus 32:35, God states that Israel sinned when they built thegolden calf. Therefore, God condemned Israel to death, exceptfor The Tribe of Levi (because of Moses). That was a definiteconclusion and so that generation died and did not obtain the rightto enter the promised land to receive the rest. Exodus 23:21
