Why The Priesthood Receives Tithes!125Romans 12:6-8 6 Having then gifts differingaccording to the grace that is given to us, whetherprophecy, let us prophesy according to theproportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait onour ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he thatgiveth, let him do it with simplicity; he thatruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy,with cheerfulness.The purposes of these “gifts” are:Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints,for the work of the ministry, for the edifying ofthe body of Christ.In Matthew 10:1-8, Jesus is described as sending His Disciples(Verse 5) to The House of Israel (Verse 6) to preach The Gospelof The Kingdom of Heaven (Verse 7). Before sending them, Hegave them spiritual gifts: (1) Power to cast out unclean spirits,(2) Power to heal sickness and disease (Verse 1). Notice that inVerse 8 Jesus said, “...freely ye have received, freely give.” Becausethey had received these gifts freely, they should use them toserve others without charge. These gifts - any and all spiritualgifts - are not for hire.Other physical skills or physical abilities, which a Christian mighthave, could be exchanged for goods and services or for money - thebasis for making a living in this world. Spiritual gifts are not obtainedfrom any school, college or university and a BA, MA or PhD degreedoes not signify the attainment of any spiritual gifts.Notice Verses 9 and 10:
