A Spiritual Resurrection Only?361Then Paul admonished these brethren for being so limited in theirthinking because they only accepted the teachings given by theirfavorite minister. This created a division in the group. It led todisputes and personality conflicts within “the church.” All ofthis was identified as carnal activity. For a full perspective, readall of I Corinthians 3.To counter these misconceptions, Paul explained how every oneof God’s ministers are truly God’s servants (Verse 9). He showedhow the only foundation any ministerial teacher has is what hasalready been laid out by Jesus Christ (Verse 11). If The Corinthianswere to accept any other teaching as the foundation uponChrist, then that teaching would be tried and tested. How was thisaccomplished? Notice what Paul said:12Now if any man build upon this foundation gold,silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Everyman’s work [teachings] shall be made manifest:for the day [what day?] shall declare it, because itshall be revealed [how?] by fire; and the fire shalltry [not destroy] every man’s work [teachings] ofwhat sort it is (I Corinthians 3:12-13).What “Work” Survives?How clear and easy this is to understand. Notice those questionsin brackets within the quotation above. They were placed into thecontext to capture your attention at these critical points in Paul’sexposition. Many people just read over these profound statementsby Paul. Yet, those questions should draw necessary attention toaspects that everyone must seriously consider. Remember, Paulsaid that he was speaking to “babes” in Christ who were newlyrepentant Christians. Paul explained the following:
