82 God’s WorkApostles to go into all the world as a witness and preach TheGospel (Acts 1:8). However, since the temple remained in Jerusalemand God’s glory was still there (until 70 A.D.), The Apostlesand other circumcised Christians went to the temple to worship(Acts 3:1). Since The Apostle Paul was to preach The Gospel, first to The Jews and then to The Gentiles, as his custom was (beinga Jew), he attended the local synagogue on The Sabbath (Acts12:14). God’s local house, the synagogue, was built by Mosesand was ruled by The Elders, the older firstborn (Hebrews 3:4-5). This was exactly how God had directed Moses. After the conference in Acts 15:5 (which discussed circumcisionand the keeping of The Law by Gentiles), Paul went and revisitedthe local churches that he had established on his first visit (Acts15:36). Paul told all the churches about the decision which hadbeen made in Jerusalem that The Gentiles did not have to keepThe Law, nor were they required to be circumcised (Acts 16:4-5).Notice who made the decision. Acts 16:4 reveals that the decisionwas made in Jerusalem by The Apostles and The Elders in thechurch. The New Testament Church had the same essential systemfor the care of the churches – just like the synagogues. TheApostles and The Elders (older men, firstborn) issued the Acts 15decree (Acts 16:4).Peter said that he was an Elder. This is not speaking about anordained person, but all of those who were firstborn, older malesin their households (I Peter 5:1). Then, Peter in Verse 5 stateshow the younger men, not elders, should submit themselves to theolder men as their elders (who were firstborn males). The Eldersled and guided The New Testament Church, just as they did withThe Church in The Wilderness (Israel, Acts 7:38). God, Himselfchose the firstborn males whose fathers had died and made themto be Elders (leaders) over the church. No one can be ordained
