And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule[master or repent] over him” (Genesis 4:7). God wanted Cainto change his attitude and his ways. Instead, Cain murdered hisbrother Abel and consequently, was expelled from God’s “presence.”The result was that he became a pagan who was a manwithout God. Remember that the punishment for Eve’s sin wasthat the restoration to God’s rest (in The Garden) would not occuruntil “the right seed” came along (Genesis 3:15). This “promisedseed” would defeat Satan and restore humanity (Eve’s seed)to God. Cain and Abel both knew this and therefore, both tried toplease God with their offerings.Now, notice how God made His choice. Once again, The Apostle,Paul, reveals “the truth.” The Book of Hebrews is The PriesthoodEpistle. In Hebrews 11:2, The Apostle explains that theseindividuals were all elders, or the older men of God. They wereall faithful and had direct instruction from God. Then in the textof Hebrews 11:4, it is clear that Abel offered unto God a moreexcellent sacrifice than Cain. As a gift, this sacrifice representedmore honor to God. It was a witness that Abel’s gift was morerighteous. This meant that since God accepted Abel’s sacrificeas more righteous than Cain’s, then Abel was to become the oneGod accepted as His High Priest. Abel would be the one to offersacrifices for sin. Abel fulfilled all of the requirements forbecoming God’s High Priest in the process of giving sacrifice forsin. Abel was to become the first human to be accepted, chosenand ordained of God. He would offer an acceptable sacrifice toGod. Although the lamb pointed to Christ, God was not promotingthe idea of animal sacrifice. Rather, God wanted a particular
