What Is The Church61The Apostle Paul said that “the unlearned” (those not knowingthe truth) and “the unbelieving” (those who didn’t know Godor Christ) were allowed into the church (I Corinthians 14:23).Scripturally, The Bible proves that the “ecclesia” could includeanyone who was called by God even though they were heretical,unlearned or even unbelieving. When The Apostle Paul wascalled by God on the road to Damascus, He, himself, had hatedand imprisoned those very Christians. But once Paul believed inChrist, then he became part of the church.Church StorySince the “ecclesia” (called-out ones) was composed of anyonewho was called by God to seek Him through Christ, you couldask, “When did the church actually begin?” When Israel wascalled out of Egypt to worship God and to hear His “word” atMount Sinai, the nation was called the “ecclesia” or “The Churchin The Wilderness” (Acts 7:38). Why did Stephen identify TheNation of Israel as being God’s “church?”It is because Israel, as a nation under Moses, met the definitionof what God’s church, “always was” and “always will be.” Israelwas called by God to seek and worship Him and to hear His“word” (Jesus). The “ecclesia” (called-out ones) formed thechurch. This designation applies even though The Israelites werenot even converted or had repented at that time (Deuteronomy5:29). Israel was given The Law of Moses to bring them to Christand they, also, were in the church (Galatians 3:24 and I Timothy1:9).
