The Great Kale Inhale

Hot dogs, hamburgers, eggs, sausages — there have long been the staples

in food eating contests.

Fortunately, now there are more contests that gardeners can

contribute to.

Take the Taste of Buffalo Food Festival in 2016, in Buffalo, New York,

where the food eating events included the world’s first kale eating contest.

The event drew elite competitive eaters from around the country. And

the winner would be the person who ingested the most kale in eight

minutes.

“It’s the new frontier food in major league eating,” declared Crazy

Legs Conti, one of America’s winningest eaters and the title holder for

wolfing down the most corn on the cob and French green beans in single

sittings. Conti is 45 but boasts of having “the stomach of a 19-year-old.”

But Conti was trounced by Georgia’s Gideon “The Truth” Oji. Oji, a

native of Nigeria, polished off 25 ½ bowls of kale — more than half of the

kale consumed by all nine competitors put together.
