an equipment repair service for equipment owned<br />

by <strong>QUT</strong>, and<br />

strategic support for Faculties and Divisions.<br />

Computing Services is responsible for support of<br />

corporate data systems, such as the Student<br />

Information System. Increasingly, we are providing<br />

access to these via a “data warehouse”, using the<br />

Internet. We ensure that authenticated users have<br />

simple and consistent interfaces to this information.<br />

The Department maintains central host computers,<br />

data and voice networks and other central equipment.<br />

Important items include:<br />

a large capacity data network, mentioned above<br />

the university’s voice network, including<br />

telephones and faxes<br />

host computers that support the corporate data<br />

systems, email, and Internet access.<br />

annually) from the <strong>QUT</strong> Bookshop, consult the<br />

Computing Services counter on your campus, or read<br />

the on-line Computing Services information pages<br />

via Netscape.<br />

COUNSELLING AND HEALTH<br />

SERVICES<br />

The Department of Counselling and Health is an<br />

autonomous professional department of <strong>QUT</strong> which<br />

takes an active role in promoting the personal, career<br />

and educational development of students and staff<br />

and providing for their health and well-being.<br />

Careers and Employment Service<br />

The Careers and Employment Service assists<br />

enrolled students and recent graduates with a variety<br />

of career management issues, such as course and<br />

career planning, employment opportunities, job<br />

search strategies and further study options. The<br />

Service aims to assist students to make informed<br />

course and career decisions and to reach their<br />

employment goals.<br />

Services include: individual career and employment<br />

counselling; workshops and seminars; careers and<br />

employment information; employment interviews;<br />

the Graduate Destination Survey; and a Career<br />

Resource Centre.<br />

International Student Services<br />

ISS assists international and migrant students with<br />

accommodation, English language tuition, learning<br />

skills, visa problems, legal, medical and personal<br />

matters.<br />

Services available include pre-departure briefings,<br />

airport reception, orientation programs, promotion<br />

of social and cultural activities, introduction to host<br />

families, understanding Australian customs, liaison<br />

with academic staff, newsletters, support for student<br />

associations, women’s groups, training workshops<br />

and preparation for returning home.<br />

Learning House<br />

Learning House offers undergraduate and postgraduate<br />

seminars and courses to help students improve<br />

their learning effectiveness. Individual appointments<br />

are available to discuss specific concerns and these<br />

can be made through the Counselling Office at Gardens<br />

Point or Kelvin Grove.<br />
