The identification and exploration of the craft of the storyteller.<br />

In particular it will focus on a range of storytelling techniques,<br />

identification of suitable stories that can be told; cultural influences<br />

on storytelling and storytelling across the curriculum.<br />

The use of computers, calculators and other examples of technology<br />

CONTEXTS<br />

Students undertake an investigation which incorporates the<br />

scale research project or an independent study.<br />

Ideas and beliefs which underpin practices and theories in<br />

and currently; foundations and functioning of programs for<br />

infants and toddlers; examination of Australian and overseas<br />

models; government regulations for under three’s programs;<br />

changing attitudes and trends in relation to parental involvement<br />

Biological processes foundational to physical, perceptual and<br />

young children; knowledge of atypical development; provision<br />

of care and education for children with special needs;<br />

related social justice issues.<br />

Processes and features of language and cognitive development<br />

of children from birth to eight years; language acquisition and<br />

thought; the knowledge base and cognitive processes; analysis<br />

of observational data to plan for children’s needs, interests<br />

and abilities; assisting children with special needs or developmental<br />

delay, especially in terms of intellectual abilities.<br />

Theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of creativity<br />

and self-expression from birth to eight years; children’s<br />

recognition and production of emotions; sex differences and<br />

contextual influences; development of personal identity;<br />

socialisation relationships among the family members, the peer<br />

context and the classroom; social and emotional difficulties<br />

of children, including aggression and learned helplessness;<br />

appropriate interventions for management.<br />
