Re-examination of the Dissertation<br />

(a) A candidate who fails to satisfy the Faculty Academic Board (upon recommendation of the Higher<br />

Degrees Advisory Committee) at the first attempt may, on the recommendations of the examiners and<br />

with the approval of the Faculty Academic Board, be re-examined not more than once. Application<br />

must be made to the Faculty Academic Board for approval of the re-examination arrangements.<br />

(b) Re-examination shall take place within 12 months from the date on which the candidate is advised in<br />

writing of such re-examination. The Faculty Academic Board may, on application by the candidate<br />

and supported by the supervisor, approve an extension of this period.<br />

(c) The examiners must give the candidate guidance on the deficiencies identified by the first examination.<br />

(d) If a candidate is required to revise and resubmit a dissertation, the examiners’ reports will be made<br />

available to the candidate, the anonymity of the examiners being maintained.<br />

(e) The Faculty Academic Board on recommendation from the HigherDegrees Advisory Committee may<br />

require that an additional external examiner be appointed for the re-examination.<br />

(f) Regulations applicable to examinations generally apply to the re-examination.<br />

(g) After the examination process is complete, the names of examiners may be released on request providing<br />

the examiner has indicated willingness to have his/her identity revealed to the candidate.<br />

Admission to the Degree of Master of Education<br />

Prior to admission to the award, a candidate must have at least three of the completed documents bound. Of<br />

these, one copy of the completed document must be submitted for inclusion in the University Library<br />

collection as follows:<br />

dissertation or project associated with a coursework specialisation where this constitutes at least 25% of<br />

the credit point total for the course.<br />

The Supervisor has the authority to decide whether a project should be housed in the University library<br />

collection or the Centre or Concentration that the student is attached to.<br />

Of the other two copies of the completed document, one is held in the Faculty Office and the other is<br />

presented to the principal supervisor.<br />

A candidate who:<br />

(a) fulfils the requirements of these rules; and<br />

(b) whose work is of a standard that satisfies the Faculty Academic Board (after considering the results in<br />

all subjects and/or the reports of all examiners); and<br />

(c) has otherwise complied with the provisions of all statutes and other applicable rules;<br />

may be admitted to the degree of Master of Education.<br />

Entry requirements<br />

A person may enrol as a candidate for the degree of Master of Education by research if that person holds:<br />

(i) a four-year education-related degree with a grade point average of at least 5 (on a seven-point scale) or<br />

equivalent, with demonstrated potential for further study and evidence of professional standing, or<br />

(ii) a graduate diploma in an education-related field with a grade point average of at least 5 (on a sevenpoint<br />

scale) or equivalent, with demonstrated potential for further study and evidence of professional<br />

standing, or<br />
