Course Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time or external<br />

Total Credit Points: 96<br />

Standard Credit Points/Full-Time Semester: 48<br />

Entry requirements<br />

Applicants will be admitted to the course who:<br />

(i) hold a diploma or equivalent at a standard acceptable to the Dean of the Faculty; or<br />

(ii) hold other qualifications and experience acceptable to the Dean.<br />

Course Structure<br />

Compulsory Units<br />

Students must complete at least four units from the Faculty of Education. These four units will include the<br />

two existing core units, CPB420 Contemporary Issues in Education and PRB410 Teachers and the<br />

Curriculum, plus two electives from the Faculty of Education.<br />

Elective Units<br />

Option 1: Students may undertake four 12 credit point units from the Faculty of Education units listed in<br />

the Elective lists or from the following Faculty of Education postgraduate or pre-service courses (subject to<br />

course rules):<br />

Graduate Diploma in Education (Preservice)<br />

ED35 GDipEd(Early Childhood)<br />

ED36 GDipEd(Primary)<br />

ED37 GDipEd(Secondary)<br />

Graduate Diploma in Education (Inservice)<br />

ED20 GDipEd(Early Childhood)<br />

ED21 GDipEd(Computer Education)<br />

ED23 GDipEd(Educational Management)<br />

ED25 GDipEd(Teacher-Librarianship)<br />

ED28 GDipEd(Learning Support)<br />

Bachelor of Education (Preservice) Fourth Year Electives<br />

ED50 BEd(Secondary)<br />

ED51 BEd(Primary)<br />

ED52 BEd(Early Childhood)<br />

ED54 BEd(Adult and Workplace Education)<br />

If units are taken from these other courses, students are required to consult the relevant Course Coordinator.<br />

Option 2: Students may undertake four 12 credit point units offered by other Faculties within <strong>QUT</strong>. Students<br />

should ensure that the unit is at an advanced, fourth year, or postgraduate level. Written approval must also<br />

be obtained from the Unit Coordinator offering the elective. Under special circumstances, students may be<br />

permitted to select units from three-year degrees within the University with the express approval of the<br />

Course Coordinator.<br />

Option 3: Students may undertake four 12 credit point units from a combination of Options 1 and 2.<br />

Special Areas of Interest<br />

While the course is designed to allow maximum flexibility in the selection of electives, students may wish<br />

to choose a suite of units related to a specific area of interest. Studies in such areas of interest may be of<br />

direct relevance to the student’s professional responsibilities, now or in the future, or may provide an<br />

introduction to more advanced work at Master of Education level.<br />

Arts in Early Childhood<br />

Business Education<br />
