■ AAB625 INSTRUMENTAL CONDUCTING<br />

Introduces students to a wide range of instrumental works and<br />

styles and assists them to achieve artistic objectives in music performance<br />

through conducting workshop activities including practical<br />

conducting, score preparation and rehearsal techniques.<br />

■ AAB626 MUSIC & SOUND FOR MULTIMEDIA<br />

This unit deals with computer-assisted music composition,<br />

the role of music in non-linear structures, the effect and affect<br />

of sound in multimedia productions, sound effects and foley<br />

techniques, introductory multimedia authoring, musical acoustics<br />

and digital sound theory.<br />

■ AAB627 STUDIO MUSIC TEACHING<br />

This unit is designed to give students a structured approach to<br />

the teaching of their craft in the studio and to investigate and<br />

to become successful teachers.<br />

Continues the development of students’ practical skills through<br />

Further development of the cooperative interaction of music<br />

Basic skills in scoring for instruments which comprise the<br />

■ AAB701 MODERNISM<br />

An examination of the concepts and movements that comprise<br />

twentieth-century modernism. Key themes such as avantgarde,<br />

modernism and modernity will be explored in detail,<br />

especially in relation to the theory and practice of avant-garde<br />

modernism.<br />

■ AAB712 CONTEMPORARY ART ISSUES<br />

Current practices in the visual arts are addressed by analysing<br />

and interpreting original works on exhibition, in stockrooms<br />

and in studios. By means of lectures, discussions and analysis<br />

of artworks and readings, the individual’s awareness of the<br />

conceptual, historical and philosophical contexts concerning<br />

artists and the artworks is heightened.<br />

■ AAB726 INTRODUCTION TO ART HISTORY<br />

Students are introduced to the basic thematics in the discipline<br />

of art history. Topics include approaches to art history;<br />

art as a symbolic object; art as commodity; the audiences for<br />

art; iconography, feminism and art history; semiotics; criticism<br />

and art history.<br />

Designated unit. Development of a self-sustaining, self-responsible<br />

art practice; fostering of appropriate research skills; encouragement<br />

of open flexible independent approach to formulating<br />

resolutions to conceptual and visual concerns; development<br />

of safe workshop practices, safe studio work habits<br />

and appropriate professional skills.<br />

■ AAB741 FOUNDATION ART PRACTICE 2<br />

Designated unit. Further development of a self-sustaining, selfresponsible<br />

art practice; expansion of appropriate research<br />

formulating resolutions to conceptual and visual concerns;<br />

increased knowledge of safe workshop practices, safe studio<br />

work habits and appropriate professional skills.<br />

■ AAB742 STUDIO ART PRACTICE 1<br />

Designated unit. In consultation with studio staff, students<br />

formulate a program of work for the semester which allows<br />

students to investigate their own personal artistic direction,<br />

formulate and develop self-generated enquiry and acquire<br />

working methods, resources, skills and knowledge necessary<br />

to realise concepts.<br />

■ AAB743 STUDIO ART PRACTICE 2<br />

Designated Unit. In consultation with relevant staff, students<br />

should develop a program of studio work which builds on the<br />

previous semester’s studies and sets appropriate goals for this<br />

semester. A more rigorous questioning of concept and artefact<br />

is required.<br />

Studies commenced in year two are built on and developed<br />

through sustained studio practice and independent research at<br />
