Early contact should be made with a counsellor or<br />

the Course Coordinator to discuss additional needs.<br />

Assistance with physical and study facilities and<br />

informing appropriate staff of additional needs can<br />

be expedited with early notice. An information<br />

booklet – A Guide for Students with Disabilities – is<br />

available on request.<br />

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS<br />

The International Students Program<br />

<strong>QUT</strong> welcomes international students to its three<br />

Brisbane campuses. All full-time degree courses<br />

offered by <strong>QUT</strong> are available to international<br />

students. <strong>QUT</strong> also offers a range of preparatory<br />

programs to assist international students to meet<br />

academic and English language requirements for<br />

entry to <strong>QUT</strong> courses.<br />

An international student is any student who is not a<br />

citizen or permanent resident of Australia or a citizen<br />

of New Zealand.<br />

There are a number of sections within <strong>QUT</strong> with<br />

specific responsibilities for aspects of the<br />

International Students Program.<br />

International Relations Unit<br />

The International Relations Unit is part of the<br />

International and Continuing Education Office<br />

within the <strong>QUT</strong> Division of Research and<br />

Advancement.<br />

The International Relations Unit is responsible for<br />

the international promotion of <strong>QUT</strong>. Specifically,<br />

the Unit:<br />

coordinates publication and distribution of <strong>QUT</strong><br />

international promotional material<br />

arranges for the representation of <strong>QUT</strong> at<br />

international recruitment activities<br />

manages the University’s relationship with<br />

Australian Education Centres, commercial agents,<br />

and other relevant private and public sector<br />

agencies<br />

manages the University’s institutional exchange<br />

programs<br />

receives international visitors.<br />

The Office of International Students<br />

The Office of International Students is located in<br />

the Student Administration Department and is<br />

responsible for the administrative aspects of the<br />

International Students Program. The Office<br />

undertakes the following activities:<br />

answers all written enquiries and advises students<br />

regarding admission and course requirements for<br />

all courses including the Foundation and Bridging<br />

Programs<br />

processes all international student applications<br />

makes all offers and monitors course quotas<br />

handles all visa related matters<br />

collects tuition and Medibank payments and<br />

administers fee refund policy<br />

administers international student scholarships.<br />

Application and Enrolment<br />

All international students, except those studying Year<br />

12 in Australia, should apply on a <strong>QUT</strong> ‘F’ form.<br />

Year 12 international students in Australia should<br />

apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions<br />

Centre (QTAC). Applications and general<br />

information about entry requirements and tuition fees<br />

for all courses may be obtained by writing to the<br />

Office of International Students.<br />

All degree students must meet the minimum English<br />

language entry requirements of IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL<br />

575 for entry to be confirmed.<br />

Following acceptance of an offer and payment of<br />

one semester’s fees and one year’s health cover<br />

charges, a student will be issued with a Confirmation<br />

of Enrolment to apply for a visa to travel to Australia.<br />

Enrolment will be completed during Orientation.<br />

Attendance<br />

To meet student visa regulations, students must fulfil<br />

all course requirements. This includes full-time<br />

enrolment, defined as 75 per cent or more of a fulltime<br />

credit load for the course. Special approval must<br />

be obtained through the Office of International<br />

Students for part-time study.<br />

Fees<br />

Full tuition fees are charged for students enrolled in<br />

75 per cent or more of a full-time credit load. Fees<br />

include student guild payments and all international<br />

student support services including airport greeting,<br />

accommodation service and English language<br />

support. International students are exempt from the<br />

Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS).<br />

Tuition fees must be paid in advance by 26 June for<br />

Semester 2, and 10 January for Semester 1 in order<br />

for re-enrolment to be confirmed for the following<br />

semester. Failure to re-enrol or pay semester tuition<br />

fees will result in cancellation of the student visa.<br />

The Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) charge<br />
