PHYSICAL ACTIVITY<br />

Provides the theoretical basis to enable teachers of physical<br />

education to program and implement physical activity for all<br />

children. Topics include: normal motor development and variations<br />

in these patterns in children with an intellectual, sensory,<br />

neurological, physiological or orthopaedic disability.<br />

Students taking this unit participate in the community based<br />

physical activity programs for such children.<br />

Lays a foundation in the disciplines of the socio-cultural areas<br />

as an introduction to the historical, sociological, philosophical,<br />

anthropological and cultural foundations of sports, games<br />

and leisure activities.<br />

■ HMB314 PERFORMANCE SKILLS 1<br />

Involves application of scientific principles to the analysis and<br />

development of techniques in all major swimming strokes,<br />

water rescue methods and track and field events. Students<br />

explore instructional strategies, motivational, conditioning and<br />

training activities, the development of activity programs for<br />

various ability levels and event rules application.<br />

■ HMB315 PERFORMANCE SKILLS 2<br />

Various game forms are analysed in order to identify fundamental<br />

game skills and problem areas in skill development.<br />

game situations; of appropriate strategies for teaching and<br />

coaching selected sports to a variety of age groups and on the<br />

interpretation of rules in a competitive situation.<br />

■ HMB316 PERFORMANCE SKILLS 3<br />

Basic theoretical principles fundamental to the performance<br />

and teaching of gymnastics and dance; physical fitness and<br />

routines incorporating a variety of gymnastic and dance skills<br />

on floor/apparatus; recognise/remedy of unsafe practices.<br />

■ HMB317 OUTDOOR EDUCATION<br />

The value and place of outdoor education in schools and the<br />

community; development of proficiency in a number of outdoor<br />

promotion of positive attitudes towards natural<br />

environments.<br />

■ HMB321 SPORT IN SOCIETY<br />

The relationship between sport and the social world. The nature<br />

society through an analysis of such contemporary issues and<br />

developments in sport as drugs in sport, sport and the law,<br />

violence in sport, equity and sport, and sport and socialisation.<br />

insight into life in other countries and act to enhance international<br />

■ HMB329 PLAY & CULTURE<br />

A study of the play element in non-literate societies providing<br />

insight into play in contemporary societies. The anthropology<br />

of play provides a perspective not only for analysing<br />

play behaviour itself, but also for describing other cultural<br />

experience.<br />

■ HMB332 HEALTH RELATED FITNESS<br />

This unit provides a forum for a review of selected classic and<br />

recent literature representing the growing body of evidence<br />

and the arguments supporting the relationships between physical<br />

activity and chronic disease and the relationships between<br />

physical activity, fitness and optimal health. Special attention<br />

is given to the question of “How much is enough?” to achieve<br />

health enhancement. Application of this knowledge is made<br />

within the school, community and personal lifestyle contexts.<br />

■ HMB333 CHILD & ADOLESCENT HEALTH<br />

Child and adolescent health and the wide range of factors that<br />

of life. An analysis is made of skills required for health-enhancing<br />

behaviours and experience provided in some of the<br />

skills needed to assess and maintain the health status of children.<br />

■ HMB337 ORGANISATION & MANAGEMENT IN<br />

PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORT<br />

School physical education departments and sporting associations<br />

are medium-sized organisations requiring direction for<br />

servicing a large client base with a fluctuating budget. Students<br />

examine the role of administrators, management and<br />

leadership styles, and the administration of monies, facilities<br />

and human resources in a sports setting.<br />
