Media and Publications<br />

Publications: The Guild produces a range of free<br />

publications throughout the year, including the diary,<br />

a wallplanner, newsletters, clubs and societies<br />

handbook, the Annual Report and various brochures<br />

on services and activities.<br />

Student Newspaper: The Guild regularly publishes<br />

a free community newspaper called Utopia to which<br />

students can contribute. It provides general<br />

information and also acts as a forum for a wide range<br />

of topics of student interest. Editors of the paper are<br />

elected each year and all students are eligible to stand<br />

International Students Department<br />

Assistance<br />

Assists all international students, undergraduate<br />

and postgraduate, to appeal against exclusions and<br />

other academic matters.<br />

Assists the fight against discrimination of any kind<br />

within the University environment.<br />

Assists other international student clubs associated<br />

with Student Guild to organise social events.<br />

Cultural Awareness<br />

The Department’s objective is to promote cultural<br />

awareness at <strong>QUT</strong> among students and staff.<br />

Therefore, from time to time the Department holds<br />

multicultural events like market days with the help<br />

of international student clubs and other<br />

Web which can be accessed at . Many of the<br />

Guild’s services are listed there along with an events<br />

page where students can find out what is happening<br />

on their campus.<br />

OTHER SERVICES<br />

Campus Shops: The Campus Shop at Gardens Point<br />

campus sells a large range of calculators, <strong>QUT</strong><br />

memorabilia, sportswear, shoes, chemist lines,<br />

cigarettes and other goods, and provides photo<br />

developing and dry cleaning. There are credit card<br />

and EFTPOS facilities plus three-month lay-by with<br />

minimum deposit. The Kelvin Grove shop sells<br />

sportswear, shoes, chemist lines and cigarettes. It<br />

also carries newsagency items such as magazines,<br />

newspapers and cards. Phone: (07) 3864 1681.<br />

Campus Club: The Student Guild operates a club<br />

at the Gardens Point campus. The club is an excellent<br />

venue to relax, kick back and unwind. It has a bar,<br />

pool tables, and an outdoor eatery with a variety of<br />

burgers, salads, made to order sandwiches and many<br />

other delicious menu items. With the daily specials,<br />

you need never spend over $3.00 for lunch every<br />

day. The club also hosts bands throughout the year<br />

and is available for balls and other functions at very<br />

reasonable rates.<br />

Degrees Cafe: Degrees is a licensed cafe run by the<br />

Student Guild at Gardens Point campus, Level 3, Y<br />

Block. Degrees offers students and staff the best<br />

coffee on campus – from cappuccino to latte, flat<br />

white and espresso. Also on offer at reasonable prices<br />

are delectable pastries, cakes and fine foods such as<br />

lasagne, quiche, filos, foccacia and bagels. The cafe<br />

is open Monday to Thursday 10am to 6pm and<br />

Friday 10am to 3pm. Phone (07) 3864 1236.<br />

Graduation Gown Hire and Sale: The Guild hires<br />

gowns, hoods and mortarboards for graduation<br />

ceremonies and photographs.<br />

Student Lounges: Student Lounge facilities are<br />

provided by the Guild at Kelvin Grove and<br />

Carseldine campuses. These provide an area to relax<br />

or socialise. Drink vending machines are available<br />

in or near the lounges.<br />

Child Care Centres: The Guild operates child care<br />

centres on all three campuses. All centres operate<br />

from Monday to Friday with hours being determined<br />

by student needs. Fees are reasonable with<br />

government subsidies available at all centres.<br />
