■ CNP430 CURRENT ISSUES<br />

The unit is very much an integrative study area. There are two<br />

main strands: the integration, under the project management<br />

umbrella, of areas already studied; and the integration of recent<br />

and topical developments in the area of project management.<br />

Areas may include: quality management, case studies,<br />

computer applications and selection, technology, simulation<br />

exercises (Arousal, Bicep), recent developments, change management,<br />

ethics, panel discussions, research presentations.<br />

Some of these topics will be covered by guest speakers from<br />

industry or presented in seminars.<br />

■ CNP431 PROJECT MANAGEMENT<br />

Introduction to theory of project management in the areas of<br />

communication, management and organisation as it applies<br />

to the project situation. Communication: process, skills, environment,<br />

applications; management theory and organisation<br />

theory. Negotiation. Project team building. Motivation theory.<br />

Construction and project leadership. Change. Strategic management<br />

and planning. Personnel. Decision-making strategies.<br />

Stress management. A series of case studies will be used to<br />

integrate the issues.<br />

■ CNP433 PROJECT MANAGEMENT LAW<br />

Introduction to the legal system; contract law; elements of<br />

contract; contents of valid contract; legal issues and problems<br />

associated with project management contracts; arbitration;<br />

property law; international law; planning law.<br />

■ CNP434 TIME MANAGEMENT<br />

Use of planning techniques for project control; effective planning;<br />

PERT; CPM; bar charts and line of balance; arrow networks;<br />

precedence networks; time and cost control; resource<br />

control and levelling; computer software; control and reporting<br />

techniques. Emphasis is on the development of practical<br />

skills, based on established theory, immediately applicable to<br />

the project management or development industry<br />

■ CNP437 FIELD TRIP<br />

An experiential field trip in an adventure-style environment.<br />

The emphasis is on team building, working in a stressful environment,<br />

communication skills, personal discovery and extension<br />

and building trust and relationships. The activities will<br />

be oriented to achieving greater awareness of and competence<br />

in the above areas. Students are required to contribute towards<br />

the cost of this externally offered unit.<br />

■ CNP438 REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT ANALYSIS<br />

Investment principles, characteristics, goals and strategies;<br />

investment alternatives, property investments and evaluation<br />

techniques; current property investment market in Australia;<br />

basic risk and return measures and financing; time value of<br />

money concepts, PV, FV, PMT, and dual rates; cashflow models<br />

and partial interests; NPVs and IRRs and their applications;<br />

cash flow assumptions and rates of return; practical cash<br />

flow applications and spreadsheets; financial feasibility study<br />

models; tax issues related to property investment; property<br />

type selection.<br />

The motivation, instrumentation and application of property<br />

PROPERTY CONSTRUCTION<br />

The application of information technology and its management<br />

systems in the financial and physical management process<br />

of construction projects. To provide competency in the<br />

appreciation of information resources and the impact of information<br />

technology to construction management and property<br />

valuation processes; the application of appropriate information<br />

systems in property and construction industries; the<br />

knowledge in design, development and implementation of<br />

effective information management structure for property and<br />

construction related tasks.<br />
