Under an extensive reciprocal borrower scheme, staff<br />

and students are also eligible for free membership<br />

of Griffith University Library. As well external<br />

students may be able to register for reciprocal<br />

privileges with a number of tertiary institutions.<br />

Details are available from the Loans Desk or the<br />

External Services Library.<br />

Hours<br />

Hours vary from branch to branch and during<br />

semester breaks. Current opening hours are available<br />

as a recorded message on 3864 2493, through the<br />

Library catalogue and are advertised at each location.<br />

Borrowing<br />

Members can borrow from any branch library except<br />

the Law Library which is a reference library only.<br />

Required materials not held at a member’s home<br />

campus can be requested on intercampus loan for<br />

collection at their local campus library. <strong>QUT</strong> staff<br />

and students can also request material for collection<br />

at their local campus library from Griffith University<br />

Library via the special reciprocal loans service.<br />

Staff and postgraduates with special research needs<br />

may request materials not held in the Library on<br />

interlibrary loan. Once registered, eligible members<br />

can place requests electronically, twenty-four hours<br />

a day from any computer with access to the Library’s<br />

WWW Page. Ask at the Document Delivery Counter.<br />

Reserve Collection<br />

Material in high demand such as lecturers’ notes,<br />

textbooks and recommended readings are held in the<br />

Reserve Collection and may be borrowed for use in<br />

the Library only. Some material is now available in<br />

electronic format and is made available on the<br />

Electronic Reserve. Details are available at the Loans<br />

Desk.<br />

Assistance<br />

Staff at the Information Desks can answer queries<br />

and assist clients in finding and using collections<br />

and resources. Information about the Library’s<br />

services and collections is available in a variety of<br />

formats – lending services brochures and pamphlets,<br />

subject guides to information sources and<br />

information sheets on special resources are displayed<br />

in each library. In addition, the Library’s World Wide<br />

Web page can be accessed at http://www.qut.edu.au/<br />

library.<br />

Academic and Postgraduate Services<br />

Through the Library’s liason service, a Librarian<br />

works closely with each School, consulting<br />

academics and research personnel on the<br />

development of collections and service and assisting<br />

them on all information issues. This Librarian also<br />

assists postgraduates with their information needs.<br />

A Researchers’ Centre, located on Level 7 of<br />

Gardens Point Campus Library, provides a range of<br />

services to support the information and research<br />

needs of academic and postgraduate research<br />

students.<br />

Information Literacy Skills<br />

Instruction in efficient information skills is available<br />

through a variety of formal and informal programs.<br />

Students should enquire at the Information Desk or<br />

ask their lecturers to arrange classes. Staff and<br />

postgraduates may contact their School liaison<br />

librarian or the User Education Coordinator about<br />

Internet training, the Advanced Information Retrieval<br />

Skills course and other subject specific classes.<br />

Additional Services<br />

The Library provides study carrels, seminar rooms,<br />

a lecture theatre (Gardens Point Library), audiovisual<br />

equipment and quiet talking areas. Self service<br />

photocopying and laser printing is available using a<br />

debit card system. Cards may be purchased and<br />

credit added in the Copying Services areas.<br />

Other services located in some of the libraries<br />

include Audiovisual Services and CBE laboratories.<br />

The opening hours for these services may differ from<br />

the library’s hours. Please check the hours of<br />

operation with staff at the specific service point.
