Der SV Werder und seine Fans – das ist eine ganz
besondere Geschichte, wie es sie in dieser Intensität im
Profifußball nicht sehr häufig gibt.
Mitte April 2016 steht Werder mit dem Rücken zur Wand. Vor
dem Spiel gegen Wolfsburg zeigt die Tabelle Relegationsplatz
16 an, nur einen Punkt Vorsprung vor einem direkten
Abstiegsplatz. Da starten die Fans nach der Aktion „ALLEz
GRÜN“ drei Jahre zuvor, als der Verein schon einmal gegen
den Abstieg spielte, ein neues Projekt zur Unterstützung
ihres Teams: Mit „greenwhitewonderwall“ zeigen sie den
Bundesligaprofis, dass sie wie eine Wand hinter ihnen
stehen. Tausende empfangen den Mannschaftsbus mit
lauten Sprechchören und machen aus der Abfahrt vom
Osterdeich zum Stadion ein Meer aus Grün und Weiß. Ge -
tragen von der Euphorie der Anhänger, holt Werder aus den
letzten fünf Spielen zehn Punkte. Mit einem Last-Minute-
Tor im letzten Spiel schafft das Team den direkten Klassenerhalt
und feiert mit seinen Fans den erfolgreichen Abschluss
eines dramatischen Saison-Finales. Das Fußball-Magazin
„11 Freunde“ kürt „greenwhitewonderwall“ später zur Fan -
aktion des Jahres.

den wir da wahrnehmen.“
Wer Erfolg hat, hat viele Freunde. Echter Zusammenhalt
zeigt sich in Zeiten, in denen es nicht so gut läuft – und von
denen hat Werder in den vergangenen Jahren einige erlebt.
Während andernorts Spieler beschimpft werden, wenn ihr
Team hinter den Erwartungen zurückbleibt, stehen die
Werder Bremen and its fans – a specially intense story that
you rarely find in professional football.

Before the match against Wolfsburg, the team is dan -
gerously close to the relegation zone. Following the “ALLEz
GRÜN” campaign three years previously when the club was
also facing relegation, once more the fans launched a new
project to support their team: a “greenwhitewonderwall”
shows the players that the fans stand behind them like a wall.
Thousands of chanting fans meet the team bus so that the
short drive to the stadium looks like a sea of green and white.
Carried by the elation of the fans, Werder Bremen takes ten
points from the last five games. A last-minute goal in the very
last match kept the team in the Bundesliga: reason enough
to join the fans in celebrating the successful conclusion of a
dramatic season finale. The football magazine “11 Freunde”
subsequently declares the “greenwhitewonderwall” to be the
fan action of the year.

Success brings many friends. It’s when things aren’t going so
well that you see real loyalty. And Werder Bremen has gone
through a few phases like that in recent years. While players
elsewhere are subject to verbal abuse if their team fails to
meet expectations, Bremen’s fans stand by their players and
