Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

In unborn, luminous space,
The self-arising two form bodies
Spontaneously and continuously accomplish others’ benefit
Until the seas of existence run dry.
That is my advice for a happy death!
I have given my command
To Six-Armed Awakened Protector, who heeds me like a servant—
He will accompany you, my son, on your journey to Tsang.
Be diligent in your cultivation of the four immeasurable thoughts and
the mind of awakening,
And go wherever you please.
Please visit my spiritual father soon
And present him the auspicious offering of this song.
At the end of the explicit autobiography Sangyé Nyentön recounted in
response to the request of the monk Zhonnu Sengé, he sang this song of
vajra advice in conclusion:
My disciples, disciples of my disciples,
And all those who have a connection with me
Must give up all wrong conceptions of me
And develop devotion so we are never separate.
My body and that of the Victor
Are not separate, o yogi!
My voice and that of the Victor
Are not different, o yogi!
My mind and that of the Victor
Should be realized as one, nondual.
The result, the deity’s self-arising form,
Inseparable from enlightenment’s three bodies, is great bliss.
However, if you don’t give rise to immeasurable devotion,
You won’t see the spiritual master’s qualities.
If you give rise to ultimate devotion,
A Sea of Blessings 113
