Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

Appearance without intrinsic nature—
The victors’ body of perfect rapture will arise of itself.
The glorious one who bestows all accomplishment
Is the Protector who gives refuge from all fears.
Toward the glorious Protector and the authentic master,
Maintain respect and devotion that keep you inseparable from them.
Pray to them continually.
Meditate that whatever appears is a dream or a magical illusion.
Integrate this in your daily life through faith and directed intent.
Desire and anger will be released in their own ground.
[The experience of appearances as] a magical illusion without
attachment will arise of itself.
To free yourself from clinging to the magical display,
Rest the mind in its uncontrived innate state.
Dualistic thoughts will unravel in their own ground.
Clarity and emptiness without clinging will naturally arise.
Phenomena’s basic nature
Has neither faults nor qualities.
Therefore, the meditator who has realized it
Maintains conduct free from acceptance or rejection.
Appearances, this interdependent origination,
Are complete within the unborn Great Mother [of transcendent
knowledge].
They arise as bliss, clarity, and emptiness without clinging.
The result is the spontaneous presence of enlightenment’s four bodies.
I dedicate the virtue of this song
To the great, unlimited awakening
Of all beings together.
This is the Great Way’s special quality.
