Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

Among whom fifty were particularly learned and accomplished.
Four were my especially exalted root spiritual masters;
Two were wisdom dakinis who received teachings
Directly from enlightenment’s perfect rapture, the sixth Buddha Vajra
Bearer.
I pleased them, received their ultimate teachings,
Resolved my misunderstandings, meditated single-mindedly,
And attained two forms of accomplishment—common and supreme.
This has been a short account of my life: listen respectfully!
Thus, as he said in his own words, the learned and accomplished master
Shangpa Dugu-pa first became proficient in Bön and gained accomplishment.
He then received instruction in Great Completion’s three
classes of teaching from Jungné Sengé and in Great Seal’s Indian source
tantras from Kor Nirupa. Although he became outstandingly proficient in
all these traditions, his previous karmic connections awakened, and at the
age of fifty he journeyed to India. There, from such masters as 150 learned
and accomplished masters, four root masters, and two wisdom dakinis,
he received and mastered an inconceivable number of instructions, both
common and extraordinary, from the Lesser and Great Ways. He thereby
attained every common and supreme accomplishment.
