Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

Unbiased, it is not stained by anything,
Like a crystal ball that mud cannot taint.
Mind without hope or fear is like a lion.
Mind’s great bliss flows uninterruptedly like a river.
Like the light of the sun and moon, it is impartial.
How amazing!
This self-manifest mind is wonderful!
Settle in this innate state, o adept,
And within it, do nothing whatsoever to change it.
The uncontrived state is ultimate enlightenment itself.
The fault of contrivance prevents sight of the exalted path—
Let the mind’s elephant go free.
Knowing this heart of contemplative practice,
Without practice, you will attain enlightenment.
Without having done anything, you will complete all difficult tasks.
Without effort, you will gain accomplishment within yourself.
Without meditation, you will gain the ultimate result.
The three existences are all primordially liberated—
You don’t need to affirm or deny anything here!
This is the vajra song to define the view.

If you want to meditate on the innate abiding nature,
You don’t need to consult astrology
For [auspicious] dates, planets, or stars.
When you recall the King of Time [death], the time is right!
Don’t search for isolation in a mountain retreat;
The mountain of your body is the best sanctuary.
