These teachings did not satisfy him, and he carried five hundred measures
of gold while traveling east, west, south, and north, throughout India.
“Which accomplished master has met the Buddha directly?” he asked. The
scholars and accomplished masters he met replied with the same answer:
“Pandit Naro’s sister, the wisdom dakini known as Niguma, has reached
awakening’s three pure stages and can receive instruction directly from
Buddha Vajra Bearer.” “Where does she live?” he asked. They replied, “If
your vision is pure, you can see her face anywhere. If your vision is impure,
you will never find her no matter where you look, since she has reached
awakening’s pure stages and has attained a rainbow body. Nevertheless,
sometimes she appears in the great charnel ground of Sosa Park forest, to
lead a group of dakinis in vajra feasts.”
On his merely hearing the dakini’s name, devotion welled up in
Kyungpo Naljor; he was moved to tears and his hair stood on end. He left
straightaway for the charnel ground at Sosa Park forest, reciting the Namo
Buddha prayer as he walked. There, a dark-brown dakini hovered in space,
at a distance of seven palm trees’ height. She wore bone ornaments and carried
a trident and a skull cup in her hands. She displayed various forms,
such as single and multiple, as she danced. Seeing her, Kyungpo Naljor
thought, “This must be Dakini Niguma!” and he offered prostrations, circled
her a few times, and requested true profound instruction.
“I’m a cannibal dakini! When my group arrives, they’ll devour you.
You’d better flee quickly!”
Again he offered her prostrations and circumambulations. “Please give
me teaching in the tantras!” he begged.
