From <strong>the</strong> clouds of <strong>the</strong>ir activity,<br />

Enlightened activity’s rains will never fall:<br />

Great meditator, I advise you to amass torma and feast offerings.<br />

When praying or performing creation and completion meditations,<br />

Don’t fall under <strong>the</strong> sway of discursive thoughts.<br />

Give up hoping for desired attainments.<br />

Great meditator, I advise you to meditate without distraction.<br />

The root of helping o<strong>the</strong>rs is compassion.<br />

Don’t think of your own happiness but of o<strong>the</strong>rs’.<br />

Don’t mentally abandon o<strong>the</strong>r sentient beings.<br />

Great meditator, I advise you to develop an altruistic mind.<br />

To his faithful spiritual children Sangyé Tönpa sang this vajra song of<br />

instruction in <strong>the</strong> twelve necessities:<br />

Noble spiritual masters, to you I bow.<br />

Kind [spiritual master], <strong>the</strong> one I need, to you I pray.<br />

<strong>Masters</strong> who preceded him, to you I offer praise.<br />

I ask you to listen to me for a moment:<br />

Faithful persons afraid of birth and death<br />

Need a spiritual master who has a lineage.<br />
