Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

The Shangpa Masters and Their Lineage 265
And proclaimed, “You are a bodhisattva in your final life.
You will attain manifest awakening in Blissful Pure Land.
Whoever trains in your footsteps
Or merely hears the name of Buddha Boundless Light
Will be reborn in Blissful
Through great miraculous power.”
He predicted that the next three holders of your lineage
Will attain awakening in Joyous and other pure lands; to you I pray.
“No one has vital instructions like the teachings of my lineage.
Therefore those of highest, middle, or common capability
Will attain enlightenment in the body of ripened karma, in the body
of habitual patterns, or in the intermediate state.”
You made this sure promise; to you I pray.
“Those who have faith should pray to me in Blissful Pure Land:
You will be born there without any doubt!”
Having said this, you displayed multiple forms of yourself.
Epitome of the ten powers, to you I pray.
You assumed such manifest forms as the Five Tantras’ Deities
And the Four Deities of Blessing, and you granted the sacred Teachings.
The heavens filled with rainbows and the sound of music;
A rain of flowers fell; to you I pray.
In the midst of amazing signs, you left for Blissful.
To lead the faithful, you emanated limitless kinds of relics,
Such as sacred images, relics, and auspicious circles.
Master endowed with the four modes of liberation, to you I pray.
For three weeks, these wonderful signs multiplied.
At the site of your remains, deities and dakinis made visible offerings;
Lights shone in the four directions.
Master comparable to the Buddha, to you I pray.
From the ocean of your life of inconceivable freedom,
I have drawn a drop in faith for this supplication.
