Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

Sole son of the dakini, to you I pray.
The Shangpa Masters and Their Lineage 293
You viewed the prison of existence as a hellish fire pit.
With intense feelings of needing nothing and of disillusionment, you
renounced home life.
With many tutors, you trained in the discourses and tantras.
Lion of Speech, to you I pray.
In the presence of the accomplished master Zangyul-pa,
You were recognized as the one foretold—
Emanation of Buddha Infinite Life, seventh in Queen of Accomplishment’s
lineage.
He gave you a single-disciple transmission; to you I pray.
When you arrived in the presence of master Sangyé Nyentön,
Many spiritual heroes and dakinis greeted you.
As an initial connection, he gave you teaching of the three bodies—
You saw the master as the Buddha; to you I pray.
You accomplished simultaneously illusion, lucid dreaming,
refinement, emanation, and replication;
Your meditative states’ great power was complete.
Your entire grasping to the reality of appearances collapsed into
shreds.
Great destroyer of delusion, to you I pray.
From Buddha Vajra Bearer through the lineage of jewels,
The masters foretold that you would guide all their disciples.
You became the fortunate one who received the entire transmission
Of the Golden Doctrines; to you I pray.
During the day, Great Seal, ineffable, beyond the intellect’s scope,
And during the night, self-manifest, spontaneous clear light endowed
with three characteristics
Appeared naturally in union.
You completely perfected the Victor’s three bodies of enlightenment;
to you I pray.
