The Shangpa Masters and Their Lineage 309
The Honored One gave you unlimited teaching;
From Angiraja, you received instruction in transcendent knowledge.
The glorious Héruka and Yogini gave you empowerment
And entrusted their tantras to you; to you I pray.
In the great charnel ground of Blazing Skeletons,
The great illustrious master Virupa accepted you as his disciple.
He gave you the Path and Result transmission and sacred nectar
substances,
Which prevented contamination; to you I pray.
The wisdom dakini Niguma met you three times
And gave you every empowerment and meditation instruction,
Engendering in you inconceivable miraculous powers and
clairvoyance.
You committed her teachings to writing; to you I pray.
In Zangling, the accomplished master Shavari
Gave you his blessing and introduction to the nature of mind.
In Dola Mébar, venerable Brahmin Supreme Desire [Saraha] visibly
entrusted you
With Great Black Protector as your guardian; to you I pray.
In the land of cannibal demons, at Copper-Colored Mountain’s
summit,
The spiritual master’s three bodies of enlightenment, and Lord of
Oddiyana [Guru Rinpoché] in particular,
Gave you boundless numbers of empowerments and teachings,
including the Eight Great Sacred Circles,
And then bestowed prophecies; to you I pray.
Vajrasattva granted you instruction in Atiyoga.
Encouraged by the dakinis, you considered disciples in Tibet.
In lands of barbarians, your unlimited miracles
Tamed and converted them to Buddhism; to you I pray.
With miraculous powers,
You traveled to every major and minor land in the world,
