Timeless Rapture: Inspired Verse from the Shangpa Masters

JAMYANG KYENTSÉ WANGPO
During the extreme degeneration that marks this time of conflict,
this master’s life is as rare and as very significant as [the
blossoming of] an udumvara flower. 21 A wondrous, supreme manifestation
of enlightenment, masterful lord of the seven transmissions, his outstanding,
unparalleled life of freedom made him renowned throughout
the horizon of the Himalayas by the name of Jamyang Kyentsé Wangpo.
Vast and extensive vajra songs naturally overflowed from the repository of
his expansive wisdom. Among them, one appropriate for this collection is
called The Flower of the Awareness Holder, a spontaneous vajra song in
praise of the inner life of freedom of the master of accomplishment Tsöndru
Zangpo [Tangtong Gyalpo]:
Ah-Ho!
How wonderful!
The inner flame consumes the three existences at one time.
To it, the syllable Ham generously gives a share of nectar.
This burning and melting produces enlightenment’s wisdom body,
dissolution into the central channel.
Transcendent perfection of Fierce Inner Heat’s bliss-emptiness,
to you I bow.
Familiarity with the running chase of white and red drops of vital
essence
Produces ethical conduct of satisfaction in the four changeless joys
And purifies supplementary delusion in its own ground, the sound
of enlightenment’s speech.
Transcendent perfection of Lucid Dream’s clarity-emptiness,
to you I bow.
