Despite hardship, exhaustion, negative emotions, and fatigue,
You never gave up hope.
After six months of single-minded prayer,
You accomplished your wishes; to you I pray.
You met Shavari with the two noble women who served him.
He taught you with profound symbols
And nurtured you with empowerments and instruction.
He gave you permission to teach the meaning of the abiding nature;
to you I pray.
The wisdom that sees the ultimate as it is arose within you,
And you became the chief of infinite numbers of spiritual heroes
and dakinis.
In the central place [of Buddhist India, Bodhgaya],
You taught and widely spread instruction in mental nonactivity;
to you I pray.
At Cool Grove, you entertained yourself with the practice of entering
the dead,
And Mahakala accomplished your every wish.
You practiced gazes, emanated many forms of yourself,
And remained in retreat in the forest; to you I pray.
You brought many fortunate Indian and Tibetan disciples,
Such as Gangadhari, Ratnadévi,
And the four great masters, to spiritual maturity
And had them travel to the pure expanse; to you I pray.
After death, you attained Great Seal’s supreme accomplishment.
Your sublime wisdom body pervades all space.
In the north [Tibet], the stream of your enlightened activity of the
tantras’ essence
Flows until the end of the Buddha’s doctrine; to you I pray.
Métri-gupta, powerful lord, son of the victors,
Think of me, your child, with compassionate love
