Leadership tracks an index to determine how well the college conserves water resources. The
index includes total gallons of water used at the main campus and at the Garland campus,
as well as the percentage of irrigation needs Richland meets with non-potable water. Performance
for this measure

Leadership left the target intact overall for 2011-12 but increased the rigor of the Garland Campus
target to 2,500,000 based on the 2010-11 performance. Leadership eliminated tracking of
the percentage of irrigation needs met with non-potable water for two reasons: (1) the meter
for the cistern did not differentiate between use of rain water and city water and (2) data from
this measure is not actionable since Richland College has no control over rainfall.
